Job Description

Performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.

 

 

1. Performs Computer Security Incident Response activities for a large organization, coordinates with other government agencies to record and report incidents.

2. Monitor and analyze Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to identify security issues for remediation.
3. Recognizes potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises thorough reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information.
4. Evaluate firewall change requests and assess organizational risk.
5. Communicates alerts to agencies regarding intrusions and compromises to their network infrastructure, applications and operating systems.
6. Assists with implementation of counter-measures or mitigating controls.
7. Ensures the integrity and protection of networks, systems, and applications by technical enforcement of organizational security policies, through monitoring of vulnerability scanning devices.
8. Performs periodic and on-demand system audits and vulnerability assessments, including user accounts, application access, file system and external Web integrity scans to determine compliance.
9. Prepares incident reports of analysis methodology and results.
10. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technical staff members.
11. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
12. Participates in special projects as required.
 
 
Specific Job Duties:
  • Support a 24x7x365 cyber security incident response operations center
  • Responsible for on-site monitoring of security events from various sensors & agents
  • Responsible for detection, triage, investigation, remediation, response, and reporting.
  • Analyze all relevant cyber security event data and other data sources for attach indicators and potential security breaches, produce reports.
  • Assist in coordination during incidents; and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to maintain all security monitoring systems online, up to date and fully operational
  • Work together to develop skills, sources and methods to provide the best possible cyber defense capability
  • Correlate multiple data sources to identify the risk of a given event
  • Analysts coordinate and respond to events on all of the monitored networks and the systems on those networks.
  • Perform correlation of multiple data sources to identify the true risk of a given event.
  • Provide analysis, integration & correlation of events, as well as situation awareness trending reports and provide feedback with recommendations to enhance cyber defense

Education

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training or work experience.

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or Digital Forensics
  • 5-8 years of related experience in data security administration
  • Understanding of the incident response process
  • Support the evening shift - Wed - Sat, 6pm-6am
  • Understanding of the lifecycle of network and computer attacks
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

 Desired skills and background:

  • Familiarity with Archsight, Splunk, Jira, SiteProtector, McAfee NSM, Cisco ESA, McAfee ePO, Tanium, network traffic analysis, malware analysis, Windows and Linux systems
  • Progressively responsible experience in Cyber Security analysis, incident response or similar
  • Experience with Endpoint Detection and Response tools
  • Cyber Security Analyst – IAT Level 1 i.e. Network+, Security+
